AJAX Flight Display

The live flight display was recently updated to show active aircraft in a Google Map on the website, but this is only an intermediate step. Using the latest web technology, a new flight display map is being developed that will use Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX). The result? A live flight display that updates aircraft positions on the map with heading-oriented icons without page refreshes, and an intelligent backend that reduces server load to boot! I'm not aware of any other VA who has this kind of ACARS display. Stay tuned!

New ACARS Map

Firefox users can now view a live ACARS map that displays a live view of the current position of AeroTexas aircraft. Flights are depicted with standard ARTCC symbology that reflects the pilot, altitude and speed. Altitude is in 100's of feet, and speed is in knots. Mouse over a target to get more information about the flight, including originating airport, destination, distance to go, and estimated time of arrival. This new feature can only be viewed with Firefox, and for Members Only.

ACARS Display Development

Development of a new display environment for the position reporting system (PRS/ACARS) began yesterday. The goal is to display all aircraft that have issued position reports using ATAVS, and have a near-real-time display of airborne aircraft along with a bit of telemetry - airspeed and altitude. I developed a prototype of the display yesterday with Processing and it should be ready to go pretty soon - by weekend I hope.

Position Reporting System Returns

AeroTexas has resumed position reporting and flight tracking. This service is part of ATAVS 5, which will be released to members by the end of the week. Preview the new flight tracking system on the AeroTexas website.
